AT LAST. . .

Finally our colloquium was done. I have come to realize the importance of having the series of colloquia in our Electronic Newsroom class. I have gained a lot of information from these. Even I’m a mass communication student my knowledge now is not just limited or focuses to what is just necessary for my course. I learned something from various field like education, sports, military, philosophy and literature, health and medicine, fashion and entertainment, politics and business.

Listening to these people whose expertise in their chosen fields is a great fulfillment for us.

To our teacher Mrs. Virginia Bautista thank you for letting us experience the interesting series of colloquia for our classroom discussions. It allows personal information to be shared between participants in a particular topic.

However, our colloquium didn’t turned out to be successful and satisfying in some ways there are still some things lacking. . . I would suggest that organizers should prepare very well before he/she will conduct a colloquium and must considered some problems that may arise and be prepared for possible solution. Some colloquium also turned out to be so boring I think it would be better if the colloquium will be done in a lively manner not just a question and answer portion thing… And its best if there are many audiences that will also participate in the discussion so the invited speakers will be inspired in talking not just in a small group of people.

POLITICS and BUSINESS

The last colloquium was about Politics, Media, Business and Military. Councilor Jay Sangil, the invited speaker for Media and Politics shared to us his experiences as a journalist and as a councilor. He used to write for the Philippine daily inquirer and now he is running again as a councillor of Angeles City. He explained that being a journalist is really a serious profession and requires a lot of courage and must be sincere in your field.

I admit that we had a fruitful and active discussion in this colloquium. All of us participated in the discussion and asking relevant question that made the colloquium very interesting…

THE STATE OF CAMPUS JOURNALISM TODAY

Our class sponsored a colloquium last Tuesday regarding the state of campus journalism in our school today. It was attended by all the editors in chief of different college papers and of the official student publication of the school.

I remember what the adviser of the Pioneer Ms Heather Bautista said that campus journalism is very poor in our school which I agree. Campus journalism in our school is very poor because of suppression of the freedom of speech. It’s really saddening that compare to other schools we cannot exercise freely our right to expose negative issues in our campus.
In the forum my classmates raised some questions like;
“What keeps them going if they cannot exercise their freedom of speech”?
“How can they write against the admin that it won’t look like negative”?

There were lots of question still left hanging in the wind…
The challenge for us student is to actively participate and contribute something in our campus. We shouldn’t just sit and wait for change in our campus; we should act and not be passive on the issues that are happening in our school.
Your voice matters. Now, if you have something worth saying, you can be heard.
You can make a difference. We all can..
Let’s get started.

FASHION FADES BUT STYLE IS ETERNAL

The topics in our colloquium today were ENTERTAINMENT, FASHION, BEAUTY, MUSIC, SPORTS, and BUSINESS.

Ms Angela Boyd was the speaker about beauty. Theater actor Pong manio an ABMC 4 student was the one who talks about entertainment. Ms. Roxy a Physical Education teacher was the speaker for sports topic. Fashion speaker was Isa Minel Gozun who quoted “Fashion fades but style is eternal”. The highlight of the discussion was when our teacher asked the invited guest to choose one male and female from the class and suggest what appropriate outfit that they can wear.

MEDICINE

LIFE AT RISK....

The invited speaker in our colloquium who tackled about Medical Technology profession was Michelle Valdevieso. Sharing her working experienced in the field of Medicine is indeed a delicate and great responsibility. She said that mislabeling is the mortal sin in their profession. In her profession they have to be extra careful in giving the result to their person making them sure that the result will give to the right person. In their profession, shortcut method isa big no no, they must undergo in step by step process. Her life is also being at risk because every chemical and substance she holds might slip and she will be infected if that blood is HIV positive etc..

As a Medical Technologist their role includes Blood collection, match blood for transfusion, examine and analyze body fluids and cells, examine clinical content of fluids, test for drug levels in urine and sometimes in blood, count cells and look for abnormal cells in peripheral blood smears, analyze the results and correlate them and if necessary repeat the test.
