MEDICINE

LIFE AT RISK....

The invited speaker in our colloquium who tackled about Medical Technology profession was Michelle Valdevieso. Sharing her working experienced in the field of Medicine is indeed a delicate and great responsibility. She said that mislabeling is the mortal sin in their profession. In her profession they have to be extra careful in giving the result to their person making them sure that the result will give to the right person. In their profession, shortcut method isa big no no, they must undergo in step by step process. Her life is also being at risk because every chemical and substance she holds might slip and she will be infected if that blood is HIV positive etc..

As a Medical Technologist their role includes Blood collection, match blood for transfusion, examine and analyze body fluids and cells, examine clinical content of fluids, test for drug levels in urine and sometimes in blood, count cells and look for abnormal cells in peripheral blood smears, analyze the results and correlate them and if necessary repeat the test.
