AT LAST. . .

Finally our colloquium was done. I have come to realize the importance of having the series of colloquia in our Electronic Newsroom class. I have gained a lot of information from these. Even I’m a mass communication student my knowledge now is not just limited or focuses to what is just necessary for my course. I learned something from various field like education, sports, military, philosophy and literature, health and medicine, fashion and entertainment, politics and business.

Listening to these people whose expertise in their chosen fields is a great fulfillment for us.

To our teacher Mrs. Virginia Bautista thank you for letting us experience the interesting series of colloquia for our classroom discussions. It allows personal information to be shared between participants in a particular topic.

However, our colloquium didn’t turned out to be successful and satisfying in some ways there are still some things lacking. . . I would suggest that organizers should prepare very well before he/she will conduct a colloquium and must considered some problems that may arise and be prepared for possible solution. Some colloquium also turned out to be so boring I think it would be better if the colloquium will be done in a lively manner not just a question and answer portion thing… And its best if there are many audiences that will also participate in the discussion so the invited speakers will be inspired in talking not just in a small group of people.

POLITICS and BUSINESS

The last colloquium was about Politics, Media, Business and Military. Councilor Jay Sangil, the invited speaker for Media and Politics shared to us his experiences as a journalist and as a councilor. He used to write for the Philippine daily inquirer and now he is running again as a councillor of Angeles City. He explained that being a journalist is really a serious profession and requires a lot of courage and must be sincere in your field.

I admit that we had a fruitful and active discussion in this colloquium. All of us participated in the discussion and asking relevant question that made the colloquium very interesting…

THE STATE OF CAMPUS JOURNALISM TODAY

Our class sponsored a colloquium last Tuesday regarding the state of campus journalism in our school today. It was attended by all the editors in chief of different college papers and of the official student publication of the school.

I remember what the adviser of the Pioneer Ms Heather Bautista said that campus journalism is very poor in our school which I agree. Campus journalism in our school is very poor because of suppression of the freedom of speech. It’s really saddening that compare to other schools we cannot exercise freely our right to expose negative issues in our campus.
In the forum my classmates raised some questions like;
“What keeps them going if they cannot exercise their freedom of speech”?
“How can they write against the admin that it won’t look like negative”?

There were lots of question still left hanging in the wind…
The challenge for us student is to actively participate and contribute something in our campus. We shouldn’t just sit and wait for change in our campus; we should act and not be passive on the issues that are happening in our school.
Your voice matters. Now, if you have something worth saying, you can be heard.
You can make a difference. We all can..
Let’s get started.

FASHION FADES BUT STYLE IS ETERNAL

The topics in our colloquium today were ENTERTAINMENT, FASHION, BEAUTY, MUSIC, SPORTS, and BUSINESS.

Ms Angela Boyd was the speaker about beauty. Theater actor Pong manio an ABMC 4 student was the one who talks about entertainment. Ms. Roxy a Physical Education teacher was the speaker for sports topic. Fashion speaker was Isa Minel Gozun who quoted “Fashion fades but style is eternal”. The highlight of the discussion was when our teacher asked the invited guest to choose one male and female from the class and suggest what appropriate outfit that they can wear.

MEDICINE

LIFE AT RISK....

The invited speaker in our colloquium who tackled about Medical Technology profession was Michelle Valdevieso. Sharing her working experienced in the field of Medicine is indeed a delicate and great responsibility. She said that mislabeling is the mortal sin in their profession. In her profession they have to be extra careful in giving the result to their person making them sure that the result will give to the right person. In their profession, shortcut method isa big no no, they must undergo in step by step process. Her life is also being at risk because every chemical and substance she holds might slip and she will be infected if that blood is HIV positive etc..

As a Medical Technologist their role includes Blood collection, match blood for transfusion, examine and analyze body fluids and cells, examine clinical content of fluids, test for drug levels in urine and sometimes in blood, count cells and look for abnormal cells in peripheral blood smears, analyze the results and correlate them and if necessary repeat the test.

PHILOSOPHY, EDUCATION and LITERATURE

The first topics discussed in our colloquium were Phisolophy, education, and literature.

Mr. Jay Pajarillo talks about Philosophy in the field of extentialism. He shared how important to live our life with purpose, living a life with direction and meaning. For his talk, he mentioned that the moment we were born, we already have our essence and existence. God created us but it doesn’t mean that we are free to do everything we want to. Our purpose in this world is living a life that is in accordance in God’s will.

The invited speaker Mrs. Luna in education talks about the importance of education and being a mother and an educator. She shares her challenges that she has encounter being a mother and an educator as well.

PROCLAMATION RALLY OF TEAM UNITY

Last Tuesday we attended the Proclamation Rally of TEAM Unity at the Bren Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The administration, led by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo together with the Vice President Noli de Castro, came in full force in support of TEAM Unity candidates at the proclamation rally here in Pampanga. Also present were local officials led by Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid, Representative Juan Miguel Arroyo, and Senator Lito Lapid.

Arroyo appealed to her province mates to vote for all 12 senatorial candidates of TEAM Unity. The President, speaking in Kapampangan, urged her province mates to support her candidates, so that they in turn could help develop the province.

I noticed that all tried to inject humor in their lines and most of the candidates would greet the crowd, but only to proved to be experts of the local dialect. They are all claiming that they have a Kapampangan blood, that his relatives, wife are from the same province etc… which sounds like telling the people to vote for them just because they are also have a blood of Kapampangan. The candidates will, instead, focus on explaining their platforms to the people.

Packed meals from a popular fast food chain were distributed to those who went to the rally. Some barangay officials said Governor Lapid provided the meals.

TEAM Unity is composed of reelectionist Senators Edgardo Angara, Joker Arroyo and Ralph Recto; Arroyo's former chief of staff Michael Defensor; Governors Luis Singson of Ilocos Sur and Vicente Magsaysay of Zambales; congressmen Prospero Pichay of Surigao del Sur and Juan Miguel Zubiri of Bukidnon; former senators Teresa Aquino-Oreta and Tito Sotto, and Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III.

In the administration’s Team Unity, there some unanswered questions. What are Senators Joker Arroyo and Ralph Recto, who spent most of their time in the Senate criticizing the government of Arroyo doing in the Team Unity line-up. Also Senator Edgardo Angara, former Executive Secretary of President Estrada and former Senators Tessie Aquino Oreta and Tito Sotto, who defended Estrada in his impeachment trial and who campaigned mightily for the opposition candidate against Gloria Arroyo in 2004, doing in the Team Unity line-up of Gloria’s handpicked senatorial candidates?

What I actually find so distressing is the reality of what the true intentions of these candidates why they shifted under the administration. Is it because of principle base or under pressure? Well whatever that maybe I just hope that people will be wiser in choosing for the right leader who will help in the development of our country…

SIMPLE THOUGHTS THIS VALENTINES DAY

Valentines Day is a great opportunity for us to understand more of love and its importance. Most of us have this misconception that Valentines is just for couples that we forgotten that this holiday was created to share a meaningful and heartfelt appreciation to all the important people in our life, not just for lovers…

We have to concentrate on the people that matters most to us making them feel on how special they are to us. Instead of pressuring ourselves about the perfect Valentine's gift, think about all the fun and loving things that our love ones does for us. Think about what small little things could we do every day that would make them feel more loved? Show our love and respect for them by honoring our time together and our commitments. By giving them a warm hug and telling them how much they're valued is the very best gift that we can give that will mean the world to them.

Forget about the Valentines day pressure that stressing us and thinking of high priced flowers, tasteless candy hearts and stuffed bears. Show that Valentine's Day means more than romance and gifts…

Love is versatile. It is more than emotion. Love is a force that can motivate, create, heal, and transform the lives of anyone it touches. . .

PAINFUL PAST

Yesterday, I was surprised that my CF teacher asked me to come in front of the altar in our school chapel to a faith sharing… I was really shocked and nervous! I don’t know what to say and where to start. I found out later on that my classmates forgot to inform me that I will be the one to share in front of the class. I went forward I flashed a wide smile and said, “I’m not ready and I don’t know how to begin”, but of course the main purpose why I was there standing in front of them is to share something… then I started it by sharing my own experienced in life… It goes like this “I grew up in a broken home” then I struggled to hold back my tears. Yah every time I recall about my past, I can’t help but cry…

My first eight years were the painful years of my early life. I was only one year old when my parents separated. As I grew up I began to search for love, guidance and comfort. My mother was a caring, affectionate woman with a heart full of love but because of financial difficulties and being a single parent she was forced to leaved us and go abroad to work.

I remember something that happened frequently in my early years. Many times I found my mom in a corner all by herself, in tears. “Mama, why are you crying” I would ask. She would pretend that she was fine, but I knew differently. She was crying for my father. Whenever I asked when my father was coming home, my mom got a far away look in her eye and always gave the same answer, “Someday he will return”.

Our family never heard anything from my father. Whenever his name was mentioned by our other family members, they will say how bad he was for abandoning his wife and children. My mother was different in her attitude about my father. She kept waiting for him to come home someday. But someday never came…

Looking back after all these years I remember how I sat in one corner and thinking it was all a bad dream, a nightmare from which I would soon wake up and find that my family is whole again…

Sharing my painful experienced in life in front of my classmates was the moment that pain and hurt filled my heart again.

When I was eight years old I became a born again Christian. That moment on I started to seek for an answer by reading the bible. I can still vividly remember how I talked to God and cried in soft sobs, “God if you are really true can you give me a father”? Even after all these years I cannot describe the pain I felt or find the words to express. All I knew that time was I wanted a father, nothing more. A father who will support and guide me in my early stage of life…

I thought God didn’t answer my petition. It took many years before I understand why and realized that God answered my prayer because He gave himself for me to be my father. Even without the presence of my real father, God let me feel that He is guiding and protecting me every steps of my way. Until now I can still feel His love, a love that even my father cannot give. He filled all the emptiness in my heart that I had learned to forgave my father and let go of my past. . .

TO LOVE AND TO BE LOVED

When you hear the word “love” what comes into your mind? It may remind you of cupid’s arrow stringing two hearts together. Or the couples walking along the beach holding hands. Or the three bright red roses in a vase. A locket we wear close to our heart. A touch that warms and promises…

Our experience of love is both exalting and frustrating. Thrilling and saddening. Love is a relationship that comes as a holy gift from God to the world, but it can color our world with sunshine and rainbow as well as darkness and despair. It is meant to be beautiful, fulfilling, strengthening us and enriching our personality. Yes love lights our life and gives meaning to our existence. And I can say that it is both privilege and responsibility.

Yet, to some of us, who have been hurt and perhaps hurt another, the word “love” cuts like a knife wounding all over again. It breaks our souls and brings tears to our eyes. It may refresh our memory of a break-up letter. Of a love wrapped gift returned. Of a bitter exchange of words, followed by a painful goodbye… I know all about it because I experienced it…

Many of us maybe wondering if love promises so much, why do we often experience pain and disappointment? Why the enduring aches so hard to go away even with the passage of time?

The problem is selfishness. Instead of its life-giving and life-sharing qualities, we focus on the aspects of love which are self-serving.

So you will ask me now, “What then is true love”?

The essence of true love is more than feelings, more than physical and sexual attraction, more than all things that we may associate with LOVE…

For every tears and hurts because of love that broke our world… it made us strong and gives us hope that the true love that we’ve been waiting for will finally come in the right time, for the right reason and with the right person…

One of the deepest needs of every person is the need to be loved. To feel lonely and unloved can be devastating.

STRESS AT SCHOOL

Student like me experience stress in every area of our lives but how do we confront and manage school stress? How would you react if you had project that you couldn’t quit and each day and everyday you were found to face the stress of having to work at tasks that are too hard for you, so you often receive reprimands for not doing the task right, or for not finishing on time. Sometimes you even get bored and frustrated to work at tasks too easy for you. There are also times you find yourself placed in a group of classmates who are unprepared, incompetent or otherwise passive and parasite. Worst is your being deprived of your “break” period because you did not do your assignments and having a bunch of home works and not knowing what to do or how to do it..

If all these stresses occurred in school, of course for us student life would be extremely difficult. You would need all the encouragement you could get and ask someone’s help or if sometimes when you find the situation is hopeless you would find someway to quit.

Not one of these stresses in the school is unavoidable. Whether the task is easy or hard is still up to us. The difficulty lies because we ignore our responsibility as a student. Nevertheless, the stress for us will be easier to manage if we will learn to have self-discipline. We must learn to look at situations in different ways and have a more positive outlook on what we do. The most helpful method of dealing with stress is learning how to manage the stress that comes along with any new challenge, good or bad.

Believe that you will succeed if you keep working toward your goals.

ONLINE NEWSPAPER VS PRINT NEWSPAPER

The main purpose of online newspaper is to provide news and information that are more timely, more thorough than print newspaper. Not only do they allow for instant updating of news stories, they provide an avenue for instantaneous community conversation about important matters of the day, entertainment, classified ads, and even obituaries.

Online Newspaper is more personal that is why it is more of interactive communication or two way communication. The main goal of online newspaper is to expect feedback from the audience. It is also a multi directional communication or public communication because online newspaper is open to the public that they can access anytime. Timing of communication is flexible and responsive to demands of participants

Online newspaper and print newspaper have different audience. Its goal is different from the other online newspaper aims to exchange information while ordinary newspaper they are there to persuade

Legal boundaries, such as laws regarding libel, privacy and copyright, also apply to online publications. Online newspapers must abide by the same legalities as newspaper publications.

The typical composition of online newspaper are search engines, news stories, links within news stories and hyperlinks-ads.

The truth behind it...

There are a lot of pressures under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo specially the allegations that she rigged last year's election, that her corruption-tainted husband First Gentleman Atty. Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo leaved the country to protect her credibility to remove himself from any situation which will cast doubts on Arroyo’s presidency even his contributions to health care and sports development, have been the object of ridicule.

Mike, a lawyer from a prominent family, has been portrayed as an influence peddler, working behind the scenes under the president's protection. While no firm evidence has emerged, he has been accused – along with Arroyo's son and brother-in-law, both members of the House of Representatives – of taking kickbacks from operators of jueteng, a popular illegal numbers game. The allegations are the subject of a Senate inquiry.
Corruption in the country, however, is a systemic virus that has reared its ugly head once again under Macapagal-Arroyo. When she took power, the president promised to eliminate graft and corruption. But soon enough serious doubts were raised whether she can really address the nation's decades-old problem and now.

I know that it has been difficult for Mike Arroyo to see his wife suffer through the negative press that he have received.

I believe that the president political enemies are just trying to distract her from fulfilling her reform agenda as president and now Arroyo win back the public trust.
